In many respects the websites structure was been greatly improved by using a strong grid based layout. The website has featured instructions and news on the homepage that is regularly updated, this gives M3 the ability to market heavily to existing clients and yet still offer something unique to new users. We kept the design simple with a green colour scheme that has become a part of M3's brand. The website was powered by expression engine with custom modules and plugins being built for it. As part of the long term strategy I was involved in conceptualising future product development. This included looking at current personas and prioritising their needs and seeing where they fell short by using concept models. We arrived at a hypothesis that most of our users are after depth or the stories about their ancestors. Following on from this we then went away and ran user focus groups around this idea. We discovered that their ancestors stories were important but only once they had discovered the breadth and hierarchy of their family. As part of the research and heuristic evaluation it was discovered that the current proposition fell short in meeting the basic needs of the user.
